Internationally recognized for their cultural projects, Diller Scofidio + Renfro have conceived the Hub as a flexible, permeable, and adaptive space that reimagines what a setting for live performance can be, responding to different artistic interests and social contexts. As DS+R’s work fundamentally emerges from experimental projects that blur the boundaries between architecture, art, and performance, the partnership is a natural fit.
Since the first Hub in 2009, Performa has developed each edition as a response to artists’ and audiences’ changing needs. For Performa, architecture is intrinsically linked to performance. The Hub is not just a building but an experience, an experiment, and a cultural commentary. It is a place where the time-based nature of performance meets the permanence of architecture, transforming into a living think tank for experimentation.
