Founded in 1981, Diller Scofidio + Renfro (DS+R) is an interdisciplinary design studio that works at the intersection of urbanism, architecture, the performing arts, and the visual arts. DS+R has completed a number of significant urban scale and institutional projects in New York City, including the transformation of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the High Line, The Shed, and the renovation and expansion of MoMA. DS+R tackles complex architectural work at all scales internationally including the recently opened V&A East Storehouse in London, a new home for the V&A’s vast collection, and Al-Mujadilah in Doha, the first purpose-built contemporary women’s mosque in the Muslim world. DS+R co-created, produced, and directed The Mile-Long Opera, a choral work with 1,000 singers on the High Line reflecting the alienating speed of contemporary change; collaborated with choreographer Bill T. Jones on Deep Blue Sea, featuring 100 dancers and community members exploring individual and group identity; and most recently directed The Corner Problem for the 2025 Milan Triennale, a performative investigation of the body’s relationship to modern architecture. DS+R was awarded the 2025 Golden Lion at the Venice Biennale for Canal Café, which converts the Arsenale Lagoon water into espresso.
