

Justin Hicks is a grammy award winning songwriter, vocalist, and sound artist who has collaborated with numerous musicians and artists, including Brandee Younger, Courtney Bryan, Abigail DeVille, Kaneza Schaal, Cauleen Smith, Hilton Als, Darius Jones, Steffani Jemison, Charlotte Brathwaite, Sunder Ganglani, Hank Willis Thomas, Chris Myers, June Cross, Janani Balasubrumanian, Lizz Wright, and Toshi Reagon among others. His deep collaboration with Meshell Ndegeocello over the better part of a decade has spawned timeless yet innovative music and performance works garnering accolades from publications all over the world. Spanning conceptual art, alternative jazz, experimental opera, avant-garde theater, sound installation, video and design, his work as a vocalist and conceptual music maker has been presented by Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, The Public Theater, Baryshnikov Art
Center, Festival steirischer herbst (Graz, AT), Symphony Space, JACK, and The Bushwick Starr, and in the permanent collection at The Albertinum in Dresden. He has current commissions with The American Repertory Theater at Harvard, and has created original music for Tony Award-nominated plays. He has played rock clubs, concert halls, galleries and museums, as well as non-traditional and alternative spaces for performance. Hicks was a member of Kara Walker’s incubator 6-8 Months Space and holds a culinary diploma from ICE in New York City.
